The Harlem Renaissance and Czech Independence: A Poetry Workshop

In this program students will study the relationship between Harlem Renaissance Writer, Langston Hughes, and Czech Poet, Ivan Blatny, through their poetry. As African American writers like Langston Hughes used Czech independence as a model for resistance, Czech writers like Blatny used American writers like Hughes as a model for the freedom of self-expression.

Students will read poetry out loud, discuss similarities and differences in style and tone between authors, and begin composing their own poem in the style of one of the poets. Recommended for ages 16+.

Cost: Free, RSVP required for this virtual program.
