WARHOL EDUCATION PROJECT

In conjunction with the Works by Warhol exhibit, the NCSML is offering a special education project. Why Warhol at a Czech and Slovak museum? With a name and life of legendary status, it isn’t well remembered that Andy Warhol was Slovak. Born in 1928 as Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, his art built upon the ethnic folk tradition, undoubtedly influenced by his folk artist mother, of exploring the ordinary, of finding and redefining images found around us everyday. In so doing he came to dominate a wild and popular Pop Art movement, became a celebrity of the highest order, and created some of the most indelible images of the second half of the 20th century.

FREE TOURS AND CURRICULUM

Through the support of two generous local sponsors, AEGON Transamerica Foundation and White & Johnson P.C., all area middle and high school teachers and students are invited to a special free school tour of Works by Warhol from the Cochran Collection. Exhibit curriculum is available at http://www.ncsml.org/research/curricula/warhol/warhol_curriculum.pdf

STUDENT EXHIBITS

Upon completion of the curriculum, students are invited to design their own original work of art inspired by Warhol. Each student may submit one piece of original art to a juried art exhibition at the NCSML. Submission forms are available at the NCSML or the museum web site at http://www.ncsml.org/research/curricula/warhol/warhol_form.pdf

Student Warhol-inspired artworks will be displayed in two shows: Works Inspired by Warhol: Act I and Works Inspired by Warhol: Act II, two unique exhibitions featuring the talent of local middle and high school students.
