Time Travel: Destination Czech and Slovak Republics

**This lesson is designed to follow the lessons on immigration and timeline of Cedar Rapids History found in the 3rd grade Social Studies curriculum. If completed at another time, a discussion of immigration of immigration and how immigrants contributed to the development of Cedar Rapids would need to be part of the pre-teaching activities
 
 
 
 
 
 

Lesson Materials:

• Czech & Slovak Traveling Kit – borrow from the ESC @ 2500 prior to beginning the lessons. The kit includes numerous artifacts and accompanying information.

• Power Point presentation of Czech Village – this can be found on the district drive “I” in the Czech and Slovak folder (slide handouts with notes are included in this binder)

• World map and/or atlases - maps of Czech and Slovak Republics (simple maps found in 3rd grade binder and can be made into overheads if desired)

• Transparencies and narrative of European maps showing changes in European boundaries (these three maps are designed to be used as overlays to show changes over time) – 3rd grade binder

• Student copies of the following (blackline masters included in this binder):

                - The Czech and Slovak Republics tab booklet
                - “Coming to America” worksheet
                - Optional: trunk writing template

• Photos of Czech and Slovak Republics (traveling kit or internet sites listed in resources included in this binder)
