Homelands: The Story of the Czech and Slovak People.

The performing arts, religion, political history, language and immigrant experiences are just some of the topics visitors will learn about in Homelands: The Story of the Czech and Slovak People. One of the highlights of the exhibit is the Museum's collection of kroje (folk costumes) from Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia. The exhibit also features other items such as folk art and fine art; maps and rare books; glass and ceramics; stamps; and a Czech motorcycle.

Visitors can also tour the Museum's restored immigrant home. The immigrant home features furnishings reminiscent of the late 19th century when this home was built and occupied by Czech immigrants to Cedar Rapids.

Here's a preview of what you will find in the Homelands exhibit:

Homelands Gallery Guide
The Homelands Gallery Guide is meant to accompany visitors to the Homelands exhibit, but it also stands on its own as a primer on Czech and Slovak history and culture. We have made the Gallery Guide available in the form of Adobe Acrobat PDF documents. Adobe® Acrobat® Reader is free software that lets you view and print Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files.

Gallery Guide Full-page Spread or Gallery Guide Single-page Spread

If you do not have an Adobe Acrobat Reader, simply go to the Adobe web site and download it for free. Once you have downloaded the program, you can view the Gallery Guide as well as print it out.

Note: These are large files which will take some time to dowload, so please be patient - though we feel it is definitely worth the wait!
