From Child Star to Diplomat: Shirley Temple Black

Tickets: $12

Actor JoAnn Peterson brings Shirley Temple Black to life, telling humorous and poignant stories in first person, of how the darling of the Silver Screen and world’s #1 box office draw (1935-38), grew up to be the U.S. Ambassador to Czechoslovakia during the fall of Communism, playing a part in the Velvet Revolution.

The presentation, written by and performed by Peterson, is based on archival materials, interviews, articles, books, and information provided to Peterson from people who knew Shirley, including Shirley’s family members, and Shirley’s Public Affairs Officer, Ambassador Tom Hull, while in Prague. In November 2017, Peterson did her portrayal of Ambassador Black at the U.S. Embassy’s American Center in Prague.

Guests will also be able to view JoAnn’s collection of memorabilia that belonged to Shirley Temple Black.

Galleries will be open until 8 p.m. with paid admission. Members are always free.

WFLA doors will open at 6:30 p.m. A cash bar will be available in Grand Hall.
