Taste of Czech and Slovak

"Our" Taste has become a tradition - an opener for the Houby Days festival, which takes place in the Czech Village in May each year. In addition to becoming an opening event of this festival, the Taste has also become much bigger. Translated into numbers, in a two-hour-sample-serving marathon we had as many as 200 people come through the line in May of 2004. What a crowd! And what a joy!

Behind the scenes, this event requires many hours of planning and meal preparation, not counting the volunteers who then serve, and clean afterwards. Our Fundraising and Social Committee Chair, Irma Kelly, has mastered this event to a great detail, and we know we can count on her expertise each year to deliver what we promise - an evening of fun and wonderful meals!

We offer the food samplings in a batches of 20 or 10. Usually, you can have a pretty good idea of what the meals are like with 20 samplings, where you can sneak in several desserts too. The Czech and Slovak cuisines won't let you down, as they are considered hearty, maybe too filling, but always delicious. And one tip for those newcomers: if you think you can come fashionably late and still catch some samples, well, adjust your timing as the food goes really fast!

Let's stop right here and have you enjoy some photos of the past events. A recipe or two may be coming soon too!
